Mason P. Ashe, Founder and President of Ashe
Sports & Entertainment Consulting Inc. ("ASEC"),
is an attorney and a negotiator of complex contracts related
to the sports and entertainment industries. For over fifteen
years, Ashe has negotiated multi-year team and marketing/endorsement
contracts for some of the most notable players in the NFL, NBA,
WNBA, CBA, USBL and foreign basketball leagues. He has received
numerous awards and distinctions for excellence. Recently, he
was listed among the "101 Most Influential Minorities in
Sports" by Sports Illustrated (June 28, 2004) and (May
4, 2003). |
Inspired by his cousin, tennis legend Arthur Ashe,
Ashe has enjoyed many career highlights in the sports industry. As
a Contract Advisor certified by the NFL Players Association, he has
negotiated more than one hundred team contracts on behalf of
quarterbacks, wide receivers, running backs, cornerbacks,
linebackers, defensive ends, offensive linemen, kickers, and even a
Pro Bowl special teamer. Some of these contracts afforded Ashe's
clients distinctions such as highest paid on their team, highest
paid in their position league-wide, and even top five highest paid
player in league history. Moreover, Ashe has had the privilege of
negotiating more than one hundred team contracts for NBA, WNBA, and
foreign league players involving pro teams, sponsors, charities, and
product manufacturers.
Ashe also focuses on the "branding"
and image enhancement of his clients to maximize their earning
potential. To that end, he consults with advertising executives,
brand managers, casting directors, event coordinators, and
publicists to create marketing opportunities locally, regionally and
nationally. His diverse marketing clientele has included star
athletes, comedians, actors, models, and even JAMSTER.com (Ring-Tone
Downloading Service).
In 2003, Ashe began his mission to promote African-American figure
skaters as Executive Producer of "Soul Spectacular On Ice."
Since 1990, Ashe has produced a variety of musical concerts and
tours featuring artists such as Prince, Brian McKnight, Indie Arie,
Floetry and Gerald Levert.
Before ASEC, Ashe was a partner and Co-Founder at
Strickland & Ashe Management, where for seven years (1997-2004)
he and his partner Bill Strickland represented many star athletes
such as Rasheed Wallace, Allan Houston, Ray Allen, Chris Webber,
Chad Scott, Levon Kirkland, Sam Shade, Jamila Wideman, Tangela Smith
and Sonya Henning, among others. Prior to Strickland & Ashe
Management, he was Vice-President of Team Sports at IMG, the world's
largest sports management company, where for four years (1993-97)
he represented football and basketball players domestically and
abroad. In 1989, he received his law degree from the State University
of New York at Buffalo Law School, and spent the next four years
developing a sports and entertainment practice as an associate in
New York and North Carolina law firms.
During his first year out of college, Ashe completed
the rigorous executive sales and marketing training program at the
Procter & Gamble Company. In 1985, he received a Bachelor of
Arts degree in Psychology from Hamilton College, where he played
on the junior-varsity basketball team, was lead guitarist in jazz
quintets, and recently served as an Alumni member of the Board of
Trustees.
